For the physiological and pathophysiological study of the stomach, and for application
to diagnosis or treatment of gastric cancer, intramural injection of various agents
or dyes into the stomach wall under direct vision by a gastrofiberscope was tried
and found successful. State of gastric mucosa at the time of injection and movement
of the dye after injection were examined by endoscopy or in the resected stomach specimen,
and patho-histological examination was made on tissue reaction. Indian ink was found
to be a suitable marker for long-term observation of the stomach wall while Evans
Blue and Bleu Patenté were suitable for a short period of observation. Injection of
Indian ink on the mucosal fold and long-term observation by endoscopy indicated the
constancy of folds in the anterior wall of the corpus. Local treatment of gastric
cancer by intramural injection was attempted, and the possibility of local treatment
of early gastric cancer was suggested.
Intramural stomach injection - gastrofiberscope - constancy of gastric mucosal folds
